A STAGGERING £150,000 has been raised for Jewish Care Scotland in its 150th anniversary year.
The news was announced on Sunday evening at the end of the final fundraising event of the special year, a Green Party in the Lighthouse.
The target to raise the massive sum was set by Jewish Care's fundraising Care Bears in January.
A kosher curry night and the Green Party were organised by George Hecht and David Kaye, while other fundraising events this year have included the Mitzvah Art Exhibition and Sale, the 2008 Fun Walk, an anniversary celebratory brochure, a coffee morning and an American election night.
Other features of the year were the publication of A Caring community . . . 150 years of Jewish Care Scotland, written by Sharon Barron, and civic events by Glasgow City Council and East Renfrewshire Council.

The money raised will go towards several services including a specially adapted bus for the frail, elderly and younger people with mobility problems who attend the organisation's Aviv, Thistle, Kandu and Sunday Clubs; a theraputic programme offering massage, manicures and facials for those attending the Clubs and Day Centre; a weekly drop-in centre for people with mental health problems; financial help for clients in need for items such as carpets, fridges and televisions.
Chairman Maureen Solomons said: "We have really enjoyed so many people joining in celebrating our anniversary. This year has reinforced just how wonderful that support is and the confidence our community has in us.
"We will spend almost £750,0000 in providing services in the current year. Even with major financial contributions from our partnership with East Renfrewshire Council and our excellent relationship with the Blind Society, we are heavily dependent on the generosity of our community.
"As our anniversary year draws to a close and we face the current difficult conditions, we can look positively to a future working hand-in-hand with our community and continuing to serve our community in the best possible way."
The Green Party, was sponsored by Windsave, Very Ethical, Biztox and WWM Wealth Management, companies with an ethical ethos in line with the theme of the evening.
A donation was made by the Jewish Blind Society.
There was a fashion show, put together by Leon Hecht, with All Saints Models and a salsa display by Christina and Sakher.
Jazz duo Gina Rae and Sandy Wright wowed the audience with a range of songs and a Lord of the Dance troupe had the audience on their feet cheering.
Guests participated in a fundraising auction and raffle and Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to David Gordon and Ian Grabiner.
Special thanks were given to Doreen Cohen of Simcha Catering, who provided the catering for the major events and has given additional help and support.
A bouquet was presented to Lorna Weingarten, who helped organise the evening.
