AS the credit crunch bites hard on charity fundraising, two Leeds WIZO groups have joined forces.
Aviva and Anne Frank WIZO will stage one of the trendiest fashion spectaculars to be seen in the area this year at the Etz Chaim Synagogue on Thursday, September 11 (7.15pm).
With catering and overhead costs soaring to an all-time high, Aviva's Sue Appleson says that sharing the forthcoming function is a positive way to maintain high standards already set by many WIZO groups.
Earlier this year Aviva was offered the chance to stage the prestigious fashion show but, due to the present economic downturn, felt extra support was crucial to sell the 220 tickets if the event was to be a success.
"We knew that working with Anne Frank WIZO was the right solution," she said.
"Together we decided to reach out to the community and make this event something very special."
And there is a surprise showbiz scoop - the appearance of BBC reality star Rob McVeigh.
Heartthrob singer Rob, from the BBC1 TV competition Any Dream Will Do, will be strutting down the catwalk to entertain.
The 24-year-old builder from Rotherham came fifth in the competition which scoured the country for a Joseph to appear in the Andrew Lloyd Webber West End hit show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Andrea Kamil, from Anne Frank WIZO, agrees that the event could encourage some organisations to fight the crisis and join together for future ventures.
"By combining forces and sharing the event we hope to send a very positive message to existing charity groups who may be feeling the pinch in the present climate," she said.
The gala show has been sponsored by Snooty Frox at Beaumonts of Harrogate.
There will also be live music and piano accompaniment by Leeds musician Michael Mendelsohn.
To add to the unique ambience every woman in the audience will be offered a fresh flower, courtesy of Caine of Harrogate.
Carolyn Hodgson, TV actress, celebrity and news presenter for YTV's Calendar, will introduce the fashions.
