THE number of Habonim Dror leaders has risen to 120 - an increase of 30 per cent.

And Habonim took more participants than ever on summer camps around the UK, Ireland and Holland.

Camps organiser Aimee Cohen told Social Scene: "The constant process of bettering our programmes and working hard to take on board all sorts of feedback and, of course, the spirit of our members, always pushing themselves to new limits".

For the first time in 15 years Habonim operated a special moving camp, the Israel at 60 roadshow camp.

It was made up of a group of 16 leaders, travelling around Britain and working with Jewish communities as well as with Habonim camps.

The initiative has received attention from UJIA-JLEC, with help in designing and funding.

One of the places they visited was Brighton and Hove, which is home to a small Jewish community.

Social action worker Natasha Abramson said Habonim used its knowledge and experience with smaller communities to suggest assisting the Brighton and Hove Jewish community.

She added: "Next year, we will try to expand this day camp initiative and bring it back north."

The roadshow also ran two major social action projects, co-existence in Manchester with Windows for Peace, which looks after homeless people in Cardiff.

Natasha added: "It is a great opportunity to bring two amazing aspects to the summer camps.

"We bring the history, culture, faces, smells and colours of Israel to all the camps in a fun new way.

"We also had two Israeli leaders in our group, to bring an original fresh sense of Israel to all places".

Roadshow co-leader Dan Filson said: "It shows Habonim is growing from strength to strength with more members across the board."
