UJS president-elect Alex Green will raise expectations of the student body when he takes office next summer.
The 21-year-old claimed that under his leadership, UJS will take a "new direction".
The University of Birmingham law student won an uncontested election at Sunday's UJS conference with 81 per cent of the 359 votes cast.
It was the first UJS election to be held partly online.
Essex boy Alex has to finish his degree before he takes office, but has plenty of plans in place to hit the ground running.
"Students should be expecting more from UJS," he said. "I'll be looking to reach more students next year and raise the levels of expectations.
"I'll be making sure there are mechanisms in place to ensure students have accession to the UJS decision-making process.
"I will be looking to build on the good work that's been done and to build on the career-focused events."
The next few months will also see Alex look at who he wants on his office team next year, with the campaigns director position being a priority.
He said: "The approach on Israel next year will be primarily down to the campaigns director.
"My personal approach is that we ought to put our own house in order.
"Students need to know why they love Israel. Too many are leaving Jewish school without being able to explain what it is about Israel that appeals to them.
"While we can go out and do these campaigns, if Jewish students can't do it for themselves we're not doing very well."
And he warned anti-Israel activists: "We will not be silenced in our support and love for Israel."
Alex pledged to work with Jewish schools and youth movements to give youngsters the "tools to express their love for Israel".
Other plans include holding a social action fundraising competition and publicising UJS' welfare fun.
A former campaigns officer for Birmingham J-Soc, Alex spent the year before starting university backpacking around the world.
